A clinical breast exam (CBE) is a physical examination of the breasts performed by a healthcare provider to check for lumps, changes in texture, or other abnormalities. At SHAE Medical Aesthetics, your breast health is an essential component of your comprehensive annual care.
What Is a Clinical Breast Exam?
During a clinical breast exam, your provider visually inspects and manually palpates (feels) your breasts and underarm lymph nodes to check for unusual lumps, nipple changes, skin dimpling, or other signs that may warrant further evaluation. The exam is non-invasive and takes just a few minutes.
Why Are Breast Exams Important?
- Early detection of breast cancer when it is most treatable
- Identification of benign breast conditions, such as cysts or fibroadenomas
- Monitoring of existing breast changes over time
- Education on breast self-examination techniques
Who Should Get a Breast Exam?
Clinical breast exams are recommended for women as part of their routine well-women visits. Women at higher risk for breast cancer due to family history, genetic mutations (such as BRCA1/BRCA2), or previous breast conditions may be advised to have more frequent screenings. Talk to your SHAE provider about the screening schedule that is right for you.
Breast Self-Awareness
In addition to clinical exams, we encourage all patients to practice regular breast self-awareness — knowing how your breasts normally look and feel so you can notice any changes and report them promptly. Our team will show you what to look and feel for during your visit.
