A urinary tract infection (UTI) is one of the most common bacterial infections affecting women. At SHAE Medical Aesthetics, we provide prompt, effective diagnosis and treatment to relieve your discomfort and prevent complications.
What Is a UTI?
A UTI occurs when bacteria — most commonly Escherichia coli (E. coli) — enter the urinary tract and multiply. Infections can affect the urethra (urethritis), bladder (cystitis), or kidneys (pyelonephritis). Women are significantly more susceptible to UTIs than men due to anatomical differences.
Common Symptoms
- A burning sensation during urination
- Frequent or urgent need to urinate, often producing little urine
- Cloudy, dark, or strong-smelling urine
- Pelvic pain or pressure
- Blood in the urine (hematuria)
- Fever or chills (if the infection has spread to the kidneys)
Diagnosis & Treatment
Our team will perform a urinalysis and, if needed, a urine culture to identify the causative bacteria. Treatment typically involves a course of antibiotics tailored to your specific infection. We will also discuss strategies to prevent recurrent UTIs, including hydration habits, hygiene practices, and, when appropriate, prophylactic options.
Recurrent UTIs
If you experience three or more UTIs in a year, you may have recurrent UTIs. SHAE Medical Aesthetics offers individualized management plans for patients with recurrent infections, including low-dose antibiotic prophylaxis and lifestyle modification guidance.
